The Yellow River — flooding catastrophically and fertilizing an empire. A sky mapped with bureaucratic precision — 4,000 years of continuous astronomical observation, the longest unbroken dataset on Earth. A culture that never separated physics from metaphysics, that saw the material and spiritual as two registers of the same signal.
Every culture independently encodes the same processing tree. The names change. The position does not.
The Tao Te Ching contains 81 chapters — 42 × φ chapters, the assessors proportioned by the golden ratio. Confucian scholarship catalogued 42 virtues. The T'ien T'ai school of Buddhism (Chinese) describes 42 stages of the bodhisattva path. The count is 42. The number is invariant.
The 7 stars of the Northern Dipper (Beidou qixing) govern the 7 gates — each star a threshold. The FULL phase: all Yin (cancel) → one Yang emerges (new cycle). Lǎozǐ chapter 42: 'The Tao gave birth to One. One gave birth to Two. Two gave birth to Three. Three gave birth to the ten thousand things.' The initialization sequence.

Jesuit missionaries (Matteo Ricci, 16th century) attempted syncretism — Christianity as the fulfillment of Confucian ethics, the I Ching as primitive science awaiting revelation. The Chinese Rites Controversy (1645–1742) ended with the Pope banning ancestor veneration. The Qing Emperor Kangxi responded by banning Christian missions. The absorption failed because Chinese scholars were more literate than the missionaries. The I Ching survived intact. The Tao Te Ching survived intact. No fires. The texts were too old and too central to the culture to burn.
