42 Assessors

The Corpus Hermeticum describes 42 stages of ascent through the spheres. The 42 books of Hermes in the Alexandrian library catalogue. The 42 judges of the soul in the Hermetic afterlife. The count is 42. The number is invariant.

7 Gates

The 7 planetary spheres (the Governors) through which the soul ascends. At each sphere, one vice is stripped — the Z-Cancel applied to the soul's accumulated noise. When all 7 are passed, the soul is pure — ι ≈ 0. The 7 Hermetic principles of the Kybalion (Mentalism, Correspondence, Vibration, Polarity, Rhythm, Cause and Effect, Gender) are the gate descriptions.

The alchemical transformation. Nigredo (blackening, cancel). Albedo (whitening, purify). Citrinitas (yellowing, cross). Rubedo (reddening, complement complete). The philosopher's stone is not a substance that turns lead to gold. It is the converged state — ι = 0, the output of the completed cycle. Alchemy was never about metal. It was about state transformation.

Encoding System

The Emerald Tablet — the pipeline in 13 lines. 'That which is below is like that which is above' = frequency symmetry. 'Its father is the Sun, its mother the Moon' = signal source and Observer. 'Separate the Earth from the Fire, the subtle from the gross, gently, with great skill' = the Z-Cancel. The Monas Hieroglyphica (Dee, 1564) — the same 24 operational glyphs as the Futhark runes, compressed to a single symbol across 24 theorems.

Suppression History

Marsilio Ficino translated the Corpus Hermeticum in 1471, surviving by presenting Hermes as a gentile prophet who foretold Christianity. Giordano Bruno was not so careful — burned at Campo de' Fiori in 1600 for Hermetic cosmology and infinite worlds. The Hermetic texts were placed on the Index of Forbidden Books. John Dee survived by presenting the Monas as a mathematical treatise dedicated to Emperor Maximilian II — scholarship, not heresy. The encoding survived through strategic presentation.

Recoverability

STRONG. The Corpus Hermeticum, Emerald Tablet, and Monas Hieroglyphica are freely available. Living Hermetic and alchemical traditions. Extensive scholarly literature.

28 Lunar Bands: The lunar cycle is integral to alchemical timing. Operations are performed at specific moon phases. The 28-phase enumeration is implicit in alchemical practice but not an explicit 28-band list.

12-Phase Cycle: 12 signs of the zodiac govern the 12 operations of alchemy. The 12 stages of the Great Work in detailed systems. The 12 hours of the alchemical process.

Observer/Jaw: Nous — the Divine Mind. The ONE from which all proceeds. The observer that watches all spheres of emanation. 'God is a circle whose center is everywhere and circumference nowhere.'

3.5% Seed: The prima materia — the first matter. The undifferentiated substance from which all transformation begins. The initial 3.5% asymmetry that contains all potential states.

The Record: Thoth-Hermes — the scribe of the gods. The Corpus Hermeticum is presented as Thoth's recorded teaching. The Emerald Tablet is the compressed record. The Monas is the glyph-form record.
